Authors’ conclusions

Very low quality evidence suggests that transbronchial lung cryobiopsy for diffuse interstitial lung disease diagnosis would have a lower mortality than the videothoracoscopic lung biopsy, although with a lower diagnostic yield and a higher number of mild to moderate complications. Because of the little evidence and the lower diagnostic yield, the few CPGs mentioning cryobiopsy, describe it as a less invasive alternative for patients at high surgical risk. No coverage policies were found covering this technology.
